Here I have various collections of mixed-media, collaborative
efforts which take a piece of work from 2 dimensions
to 3 dimensions.
Certain editions will be available for a only
a short time. Make sure to check back
regularly to see what has been discontinued and
how to reserve your purchase. Also, remember to
check out my series' work.
This is a photo of people viewing the two pieces at the
Lipe Art Park Grand Opening agri-CULTURE show
in the fall of 2007.

The Lipe Art Park Series
The Three Girls
This piece highlights the commercialism of the dairy
industry. Each of these cows is known as only a number.
The barn staff can tell you pertinent information
about each cow; age, production, and personality.
The numbered tags' anonymity belies the individuality beneath.
We all have boundary issues. The following series is a work in progress that
examines different boundaries/different limitations that I find around me.
Fences - a study in Cattle
Always behind bars, always at the hands of men. Materials include fencing and sticks, adding
depth. The cows are isolated from the viewer even further.
About a white man who was a politician who negotiated with the
Native Pontiac people from the Central New York region
for a treaty based on a false promise of benefit.
After the Indians showed up, instead of signing a mutually desirable agreement a massacre by white soldiers took place.
In this piece of art, one feather floats to earth from a
ceremonial head-dress…after the dying is done.
The American General, however, is revered,
a town has been named after him
He is described on a historical marker
in Johnstown as being “a great negotiator”.
The Pontiac peoples had their name given to a strain of potato.
After the Lipe Art Park show, Rachael was commissioned to create a large
piece on the subject of cattle for a dairy farm manager's fiance and
friend. With Erin contributing the wood-working aspect of it,
"Home Is Where The Barn Is" evolved. It is a frame built out old weathered
barn-wood and its dimensions are approximately 46 inches high
by 30 inches wide by 4 inches deep. In the roof peak there is one photo
of a landscape. In the main section of the frame are three pictures of
dairy cattle. One of these was also in Lipe Park. Another hangs in
Sushi Blues And BBQs, Hamilton NY.
The matte used is a lovely dark barn-red. There is a diagonal piece of
wood across the frame from the upper right corner to the lower left,
simulating a pasture gate. On the left is a large metal "gate" latch
and on the right vertical are two large "gate" hinges. In the lower
section of the "gate" Rachael hung horizontal strands of rusted barb
wire "fence". She worked extensively with her customer who chose the
photos and gave feed-back on the structural aspect of this piece.
If you would like be interested in a similar work please contact me.
While it would never be exactly the same we can make something similar.
Rachael and Erin also entered this work in a state-wide art competition
put on in March by
The Art Association of Oswego N.Y. We just learned last week that we passed
the intital jurying! Please keep your fingers crossed for a prize to follow!
This box design was created and built by Erin. It is a prototype piece for
tack boxes to follow. It is one-of-a-kind. It is approximately 14 inches wide
and 6 inches deep. It is light enough for a small woman to carry and
deep enough to hold several bottles of shampoo, hoof oil, brushes
and curry combs comfortably. It has a center handle for easy balance.
Rachael painted this personalized piece a wonderful turquoise inside and out.
Next, she decoupaged photographs of the animals who live in the
shelter and belong to the director. She drew hoof- and paw-prints
behind several. To line the two side sections, she glued sheets of
her animal poetry on the bottom of both sides. Poems to do with
pigs, cats, horses and so on. She also used a photograph the
recipient gave her . She wrote in plain black text a rescue/shelter
philosphical quote, also by the recipient. She painted her signature
"rising sun" on the front panel of the box with its rays striping
up the handle for a 3 dimensionsl depth illusion when seen from a
distance.. On the back she included a copy of the same poem as
on the trunk "Hope" by Emily Dickenson.
This is an excellent gift for the horse lover in your family.
Boxes will be each be custom designed from structure to decoration.
Reserve yours today! Please allow for slight variations due to the
unique nature of artwork!
This piece began with an old, cast-off tack trunk or old Army blanket chest.
Rachael painted it a deep turquoise on all the sides.
On the lid she created stripes of yellow, pink and turquoise to replicate
the colors of a dawn sunrise. She decoupaged several photographs of
yellow and black birds on the lid as well. On the front panel,
she painted a rising sun in warm colors of pink, cantelope orange and yellow.
The rays of the sun wrap around the sides.
Glow-in-the-dark stars are glued on to both top and front.
Across the lid Rachael painted a deep blue three-D word "HOPE" and
to the side of this word, is scrawled in plain black paint the text
from the first stanza of the poem "Hope" by famed poet, Emily Dickenson.
The handles are painted a hot magenta red.
Whether for a new bride or for someone creating their first home,
or someone recovering from a serious illness,
the HOPE chest reminds us all that the sun does rise after the
darkest of nights..and that the voice of a small bird will
soar over the whispers from that blackest sky to welcome the sun and
a second chance!
Designed as a birthday gift, this box is custom made of white pine,
set 4.5 inches deep to hold the copies of her father's 48
patents registered at the United State Patent Office. Painted a metallic
machine green and trimmed with stained maple to offer a contrast to the
dry, one dimensional patents held inside.
This design is excellent for keepsake documents or as a decorative
photo album.
